MONTANA, Wyoming: The Associated Press reported that an 83-year-old woman was gored and seriously injured by a bison in Yellowstone National Park.

According to park officials, the bison used its horns to lift her approximately a foot (30 centimeters) off the ground near the Storm Point Trail at Yellowstone Lake over the weekend.

Following the attack, she was taken to a medical clinic within the park and subsequently flown to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho. No further details regarding her condition have been released.

The incident is under investigation, with officials noting that the bison was defending its space.

The national park enforces strict rules requiring visitors to maintain a distance of at least 25 yards (23 meters) from large animals such as bison, elk, deer, and moose and 100 yards from predators such as bears and wolves.

In 2022, two people were injured by a bison in the park, and a year later, another bison gored and seriously injured an Arizona woman.
