An elderly British tourist was mauled by a ferocious bear after she lowered her car window to take a selfie with it in Romania.
The 72-year-old Scottish woman was driving on the Transfăgărășan mountain road in Argeş County, on April 22, when she came across two bears.
As she stopped the car to snap a photo with the impressive predators, one of the bears leaped onto its hind legs directly outside her vehicle.
The tourist bravely rolled down her window to get a better view of the beast, preparing her phone for the photo.
But in a grisly twist of events, the bear pounced forward and mauled her right arm.

Her travel companion quickly stepped on the gas as the pair fled the horror scene, making a desperate attempt to escape further attack.

She told local reporters she came from Scotland, and revealed her arm was ‘sore’ after her run-in with the creature.
The traveller said: ‘We were in the car and we were going to take a picture.
‘And the bears came up to the window.’
In her hospital bed, she added: ‘I just wanted to take a picture of him.’
Doctors have since confirmed that the woman’s injuries are not life-threatening.
Following the attack, the police reportedly organised themselves into several teams to drive the bears away from the area.
They also advised residents and tourists to always keep a safe distance if encountering animals in the wild.
It comes after a terrifying spate of bear attacks in Slovakia last month.
A Belarusian woman, 31, had been walking through the Low Tatras mountain range with a male companion before they were set upon by a bear.
According to her male companion, he and the woman fled in different directions, into the surrounding thick forest and steep ravines.
Her body was discovered by the Slovak Mountain Rescue Service in March with the bear still nearby who was frightened off by gun shots from the rescue team.
Then just days later, a brown bear unleashed its terror as it rampaged through the Slovakian town of Liptovský Mikuláš, and attacked two people, leaving them hospitalised.
A 49-year-old woman sustained an injury to her shoulder, while a 72-year-old man was treated for a gash on his head after the pair were targeted by the beast.
A 10-year-old girl and two further adults suffered scratches and bruises, authorities said, while a couple pushing their child in a buggy were ‘lucky to escape unharmed’.

Officials then declared a state of emergency and locals were urged not to leave their homes while the predator remained at large.

Bears are common across large parts of Eastern Europe in the areas surrounding the Carpathian mountains, which stretch from Romania to Poland and pass through Slovakia.
In recent years, there have been a number of bear attacks across Eastern Europe, including a fatal attack in Slovakia in 2021.
The Slovakian Environment Ministry said that together with Romania it will propose at the next EU Council of environment ministers that bears should be reclassified on the protected species list because their numbers mean they aren’t endangered anymore and could be selectively culled.
