BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

QUANTUM NETWORK

A team of Chinese scientists have created the world’s first memory-memory entanglement in a multi-node quantum network over a metropolitan area.

The advancement has significantly extended the range of practical quantum entanglement networks, increasing it from a mere tens of meters to a substantial distance of tens of kilometers — an enhancement spanning three orders of magnitude.

It has provided robust foundation for innovative quantum technologies, such as quantum computing and quantum-enhanced long baseline interferometry.

ENHANCED 5G VERSION

Some China Mobile users near Beijing’s west third ring area found their “5G” cellphone signal turning into “5G-A” on Friday, meaning they had access to a network more than 5 times faster than 5G.

The China Mobile staff’s on-site speed measurement showed that the download rate of 5G-A exceeded 2Gbps, which means that a 5GB movie can be downloaded in about 20 seconds.

PUBLIC SCIENCE DAY

The Chinese Academy of Sciences opened its doors to science enthusiasts on Saturday, engaging the public with latest sci-tech achievements and free access to its cutting-edge research facilities.

China’s top institution in terms of natural sciences, the academy will host its 20th Public Science Day on May 18 and 19. More than 100 research institutes nationwide under the academy will open key laboratories, organize lectures and demonstrate experiments to science-savvy audiences.
