COLUMBUS, Ohio: Google announced it will invest an additional US$2.3 billion to support its three data center campuses in central Ohio.
The tech giant already has data centers in New Albany and Lancaster, with another under construction in Columbus. These centers help power Google’s vast array of services, including search, Gmail, maps, cloud, and YouTube for users globally. This latest investment adds to the $4.4 billion Google has poured into central Ohio since 2019.
While the company has not disclosed specific details on how the new investments will be allocated among the three data centers, the substantial financial boost underscores Google’s commitment to expanding its regional infrastructure.
Data centers have become increasingly common across the U.S., providing significant revenue for local governments. However, they also demand substantial electricity and require high-voltage transmission lines.
