Israel’s siege now blocks 83% of food aid reaching Gaza, new data reveals

NEW YORK, 19th September, 2024 (WAM) — United Nations humanitarian aid organisations say that Israel has blocked 83 percent of food aid from entering Gaza, almost a year after the war in the Gaza Strip.

According to a press release issued by 15 aid organisations, the percentage of blocked aid has risen from 34 percent in 2023 to 83 percent, reducing the population’s meals from two to one a day.

About 50,000 children between the ages of 6 and 59 months are in urgent need of treatment for malnutrition by the end of the year, the statement said.

The signatory organisations, such as Save the Children, Oxfam and the Danish Refugee Council, stressed that providing aid is the only option available under the current circumstances, due to the inability to manage the humanitarian situation.
