Laos seeks to fight cybercrimes

VIENTIANE, June 26 (Xinhua) — Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security Vilay Lakhamfong urged the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications to seek prompt solutions to combat cybercrimes.

Speaking at a meeting to summarize the work of the national internet management committee in the first half of 2024, Vilay called on relevant authorities to accelerate addressing cybercrimes, including government document leaks, pornographic content, online gambling, illegal lotteries, prostitution, and drug trafficking.

Vilay noted that it is necessary for the committee to work closely with relevant parties to ensure the internet and digital technology can contribute effectively to national development, according to a report issued on Wednesday from the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications.

During the meeting on Tuesday, Vilay also urged relevant authorities to focus on devising a national cybersecurity strategy to be used as a reference for internet and cybersecurity management.
